Lateral Framing Special Inspection (LFSI)
Wednesdays, 6 – 9 PM,
September 29 through December 22, 2010 plus one field trip
Shoreline Conference Center, Cromwell Room

This class is for all levels of inspectors.  You will gain knowledge and confidence in the area of wood framing through lecture, case studies from the field, guest speakers, and field trips.  Upon completion of this course, you will have a thorough understanding of lateral framing and how to inspect it.  This class will prepare you for the WABO LWSI exam and interview.

During the 12-week course, the following items will be covered:

  • Hardware and fasteners
  • Earthbound system
  • Epoxy grouting
  • Engineering community’s expectations
  • Forensic Investigations on failures
  • IBC, NDS, APA books
  • Prefabricated shearwalls
  • Cold-Formed Steel Studs
  • AWS D1.3
  • Pre-construction meetings

Instructor
Lisa Pyper
has been a construction inspector for 20 years responsible for various projects of differing magnitudes up to $240 million.  She currently works for Heery International as a consultant to the Port of Seattle (POS).  As part of the POS QA team, she provides oversight on the construction of the new Rental Car Facility at SeaTac Airport.  She is fully licensed in all disciplines of special inspection by both ICC and WABO.

  • IBC 2009 (at least chapters 17 and 23)
  • “Introduction to Lateral Design
  • “Engineered Wood Construction Guide
  • “Diaphragms and Shearwalls”
    (The above 3 booklets above will be handed out in class)

Location
Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st NE, Shoreline, WA.  From northbound 1-5 take exit #176 (NE 175th St).  Turn left on NE 175th, right on Meridian, right on N. 185th and left on 1st NE.  The Center is on the right. Turn in the first driveway and park in south parking lot or behind the building.  You can enter through the east door. From southbound I-5 take exit #177 (205th St).  Turn right on 205th, left on 1st NE.  Center is on the right. Turn in the first driveway and in south lot.  You can enter through the south or east door.  Class is in the Cromwell Room.
