Ultrasonic Testing Course Level II
Phase I, 40 hours of training- 2008
4 Thursdays, January 24, 31 and Feb 7 and 14; 6 – 9 PM
and 4 Saturdays, January 26, Feb 2, 9 and 16; 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

The goal of this class is for students to become a Level II Ultrasonic
Technician as set forth by ASNT TC1-A. There are 80 hours of training
required for this course that we will do in two phases. This is Phase
I and will meet for 40 hours. Phase II will follow after Phase I (dates
to be determined).
Student MUST be a Certified Welding Inspector or a Certified Steel
Inspector with at least 2 years experience.
Course materials and activities will be presented in structured lectures.
Specific homework quizzes and reading assignments, in class work sheets
and practical lab exercises included.

Ø Equipment Controls
Ø Wave Propagation Reflection And Refraction
Ø Couplant, Material Characteristics, Beam Spread
Ø Attenuation, Impedance, Resonance
Ø Screen Images, Angle Beam Inspection
Ø Transducers
Ø Immersion Inspection
Ø Contact Testing, Wave Forms, Mathematics
Ø Ultrasonic Indications
Ø Discontinuity Classification
Required materials: Each student will have to bring his/her own UT
machine, note pad pen and calculator with sine, cosine and tangent functions.
Instructor: Mike Virgilio has been certified as an NDT inspector for
24 years and has taught many NDT classes over the last 15 years.
