This course is designed for working special inspectors with a sound, general knowledge of concrete construction who wish to gain knowledge of prestressed concrete construction. 
The goals of this course are:

  • To provide practical knowledge of post-tensioned and prestressed concrete terminology, procedures and construction
  • To assist inspectors in preparing for and passing the ICC Prestressed Concrete Special Inspector exam

Topics will include:

  • Overview of and principles behind prestressed concrete
  • Understanding design and shop drawings
  • Pre-construction considerations and meetings, Seattle DPD forms
  • The inspection process
  • Inspection and testing during post-tensioned concrete placement
  • The tensioning operation
  • The literature, specifications, and passing the test
  • Test questions and summaries of listed reference materials

Instructor:  Aaron VanderPol- WABO / OBOA Special Inspector (9 years). Certifications: WABO/OBOA: Reinforced Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Shotcrete, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, Structural Welding, Spray Applied Fire Resistive Materials, Proprietary Anchors; ASNT: Level II Ultrasonic Testing; NICET: Level II Asphalt, Level II Concrete; OSHA 10

Required Class Material: The following reference is required for the class:

  • 2000 Field Procedures Manual for Single Strand Tendons, 3rd edition

Recommended Class Materials: The following are approved references for the ICC exam. All students should have access to these materials for ICC exam preparation:

  • 2012 International Building Code
  • ACI 318-11 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary
  • Manual for Quality Control for Plants and Production of Structural Precast Concrete Products, 4th edition
  • ASTM Standard A416 / A416 M-06
  • ASTM Standard A421 / A421-02
    • Listed ASTM Standards may be found in ASTM Standards: As Referenced in the 2009 IBC, ACI Publication SP-71, or at www.astm.org. ASTM Standards are those referenced in the 2009 IBC.
  • Post-Tensioning 3-Part Set:
